A new terminal complex is now under construction at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY). The $1 billion, 35-gate terminal will provide an improved passenger experience showing off the spirit of New Orleans throughout the facility through the presence of live music and local restaurants that characterize New Orleans’ distinct culture. When the new facility opens in fall 2019, all operations will move to the new location on the other side of the airport runways.

City, Aviation Board Reschedule Opening of New Airport Terminal

Today, the City of New Orleans and the New Orleans Aviation Board announced that, after evaluating the status of all construction activities and consulting with key stakeholders, the new terminal at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) will now open to the public in fall 2019. The complex coordination of construction activities during the final phase of this major project has impacted the ability to provide the new, state-of-the-art airport facility to the Greater New Orleans region on the previously-scheduled date of May 15, 2019.

When the new terminal at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport opens in May 2019, the public will take a different route to get to the airport. The new terminal is located in closer proximity to the region’s main thoroughfare, I-10.

A major project milestone was achieved with the topping out of the New MSY. The Airport joined Mayor Landrieu, New Orleans officials, and the 750 construction workers on the project to celebrate the occasion.
Construction of the new $993.7 million terminal at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport began in January 2016. Nearly two years into the project, the new terminal is approximately 60% complete and slated to open February 2019.
